LATEST NEWS

London, United Kingdom (29 January 2010) – AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, announces the acquisition of Currie & Brown (Australia) Pty Ltd, a leading Australian cost and commercial management consultancy from its shareholders for AU$36.4 million in cash.

The Facilities Management Association Australia (FMAA) held its 20th anniversary, annual conference entitled ‘Ideaction’ in Melbourne this year. Convened at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, FMAA hosted a variety of presentations and debates focusing on Aged Care facilities Sustainability. The conference, called ideaction, hopes that the FMA will stimulate Ideas and Action within the FM arena.

The lower attendance figures at the conference reflected the current global economic downturn. A notable casualty of the situation was the observed lower than usual standard in terms of content of presentations. The exception of course was Mike O’Shea’s joint presentation with AMP and Johnson Controls of the FMA “Innovation Procurement Solutions” guidelines.

In this time of global financial uncertainty, Currie & Brown ask… “What is the Future for Construction Costs?”

Our research identified a number of key findings including:

  • Construction Costs likely to drop 5% - 15% to 30 June 2009 with further falls possible depending on location
  • Major downturns typically show around 3 - 4 years of declining construction costs relative to CPI
  • Cost recovery typically takes 3 - 4 years
