Education
Currie & Brown offers a considerable depth of experience and a comprehensive range of independent professional cost management and contractual services to the Education sector.
Our expertise covers the entire lifecycle of constructed assets, from concept feasibility, through design, procurement and construction to ongoing asset and facilities management.
Currie & Brown has a corporate partnership with the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association (TEFMA). The association has included joint publication of a number of papers, conference presentations, and benchmarking studies.
Examples of services provided to the education sector include:
Contract Administration
Provide input into developing contract documentation to ensure client's interests are protected.
Estimates of likely construction cost
These estimates would be based on our substantial resources of historical and current data obtained from our involvement in the current and recently completed projects and from our extensive resource network.
Review of estimates of likely construction costs
Where estimates of construction cost are prepared by others, we are able to carry out reviews to confirm the adequacy and/or competitiveness of the estimates.
Preparation of detailed cost plans
As the design proceeds through schematic design to design development we are able to prepare progressively more detailed estimates and cost plans to monitor and/or confirm compliance with target budgets. At completion of design development we prepare a detailed cost plan that will enable detailed pricing prior to submission of a contract price for the works. We are also able to carry out pricing of this document, for example to provide confirmation of trade cover pricing.
Preparation of trade package budgets
After completion of the Detailed Cost Plan costs can be allocated to trade packages to enable cost control and cost monitoring during the procurement phase of the project.
Value engineering & value management
Throughout the design process we are able to offer our expertise in the assessment of cost and value in construction pricing to ensure cost effective design solutions are incorporated and to provide information on comparative levels of fitouts, finishes etc being designed into similar facilities in different regions of Australia.
Lump sum or trade package bills of quantities
To enable receipt of competitive prices from tenderers we are able to offer lump sum or trade package Bills of Quantities and Schedules of Rates or prices for incorporation into tender documentation.
During the Documentation Phase, we are able to monitor the detailed design to ensure that the scope of work included in the trade package tender documentation matches that included in the project cost plan. This process can prevent significant expenditure and loss of time resulting from redesign and re-tendering to achieve available budgets.
Documentation Co-ordination
The process of preparing Bills of Quantities can also offer signficant benefits if it incorporates the role of coordination and documentation. We have previously provided design management services to major contractors and believe that where Bills of Quantities are prepared with this added focus significant reductions in on-site coordination can be achieved.
Recurrent and maintenance cost assessments
Through a combination of our in-house expertise and association with experienced consultants, we are able to offer recurrent costing advice, asset management advice and assessment life cycle and maintenance costs.
Alliancing/Independent Estimator Role
The role of Independent Estimator is not a role for one person but rather a role to be filled by a team of people with the necessary expertise across various speciality areas capable of meeting the requirements of the brief and providing independent assurance/validation that the target cost estimates developed by the alliance team are fair and reasonable.
